F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions

What is Griffinclaw Enterprises?

Griffinclaw is the result of three local LARPers who decided they wanted to bring a Werewolf LARP to a predominantly vampire LARP scene. The original three STs were Benjamin Burton, Richard Huffman, and Michael Mull. The current STs are Benjamin Burton, Michael Mull, and Adam McLaughlin.

What types of characters do you allow?

At the time of this post we allow Werewolves, Vampires, Mages, and Humans. Whether or not anything will be addedor removed from that list remains to be seen.

Do you have any house rules?

Yeah we print out a list of em at each game for players to reference. They're nothing major and many of them are flexible.

What's your system for gaining and spending EXP?

We give players 1 exp a game. Those who come in costume get 2 exp per game. You may spend the Exp you get that game in between sessions as soon as you get it. We follow the standard MET rules for Exp Expenditures.

What qualifies as a costume?

Dressing like your character. Storytellers are the final word on what will and will not work. General hint: Jeans and a t-shirt aint gonna cut it.

What is open to players for Werewolf?

All werewolftribes except Black Spiral Dancer. Changing Breeds are also not allowed currently.

What is open to players for Vampire?

The 7 Camarilla clans(including Gangrel) as well as Caitiff. Independent clans and Bloodlines are not currently allowed.

What is open to players for Mage?

The 9 Traditions, Hollow Ones, and Orphans. Technocracy, Maruaders, and Nephani aren't happening.

What is open to players for Human?

Basically everything. Hedge mages, Psychics, and just about anything else found in Laws of the Hunt.

How many freebie points do you give players?

New characters get 15 Freebie Points plus additional benefits from their species. Werewolves start at Rank 2, Vampires get 3 free Generation traits, Mages get 1 free Arete, and humans get an additional 7 freebie points.

What is your system for influence?

White Wolf is deliberately confusing when it comes to Werewolf Influence. We aren't. You may start off with Influence using either your Background or Freebie Points. Later they cost 1 Exp each to get. Certain Tribes are restricted from getting certain Influences so ask before you buy them. For instance if you're playing a Bone Gnawer don't even ask for Finance Influence. Also we DO allow the swapping of Influences between characters. This is done between sessions. Some LARPs do not allow this, we do. We feel as though it adds a bit of intrigue to the game and gives you something to barter other characters with.

How do packs and totems work?

Technically all you need for a pack is two members and a totem. Packs are Garou who run together and are looked after by a totem patron. The more members you have, the stronger the totem is. Get yourself at least one other person, petition a totem, and there you are. Most totems only give their blessing to one member at a time though some vary. If the pack splits up the totem is gone. If all members of a pack but one die then that one person still benefits from the totem until such time as another pack can be formed.

I saw something cool in a Tribebook/Clanbook/Traditionbook/Etc. Can I use it?

Depends. Probably so as long as we can translate it to MET rules, but we got final say to smack anything we consider to be a stupid idea down.

What is your system for buying new Attributes and Traits?

New Abilities cost 1 exp per background per level. New Attributes also only cost 1 exp. characters cannot buy more traits in a category than their rank or chronicle standard allows.

What is your system for Gifts?

We're pretty easy going on Gifts within your Tribe/Auspice/Breed. As long as you have the Rank and Exp we let you have it most times. Though it still costs you 1 extra Exp if the gift is from outside your tribe, auspice, or breed. The cool thing about Gifts is you can learn them in game.

New Gifts
Gift Level Spirits Garou Caern Power Levels
Basic - 3exp 1 hour 1 month Level 1-2
Intermediate - 6exp
|
longer Level 3-4
Advanced - 9exp 1 night even longer Level 5

Example, it takes 1 hour for a spirit to teach a garou a basic gift, 1 month for garou to teach another garou the same gift, and caern power level indicates that the spirits in that caern can teach gifts up to that level.

What is your system on Rites?

If you're Rank 2 or above then you can learn Basic Rites for 2 exp for each Rite you learn. Or you can learn one Minor Rite for 1 exp. If you roleplay a Rite out it will go easier for you as opposed to just throwing a test.

New Rites or Rituals
Level Exp Study Perform
Minor none 3 days none
Basic 2 exp 1 weeks 10 min
Intermediate 4 exp 3 weeks 30 min
Advanced 6 exp 5 weeks 1 hour

Rites and Rituals only cost exp if they are not readily available during game play. In that case they only require time. Example, one Minor rite costs zero exp to learn, 3 days to study and learn, and almost no time to perform.

Buying New Merits, Gnosis, Rage, and Willpower?

New Merits and buying off Flaws cost double the listed price. New Gnosis, Rage, and Willpower traits cost 3 exp each.

What is your system on Renown?

When you do stuff you get Renown for it. There are two types of players generally. Active and Reactive. Werewolf lends itself heavily to Active players. The more Renown you get the more your character is respected by spirits and Garou alike.

Hey STs are cool! How do I get to be one in this LARP?

We occasionally hire on new STs, it aint often but if you're interested then bring it up at that time.

Hey that ST sucks! What can I do?

You got a few options if you don't like how a particular ST deals with things. Talk with the ST and try to work it out, go to the other STs for your scene running needs, go run your own LARP and show em how it's done, or just learn to deal with it.

My character died. What should I do?

Go make another one. This is the World of Darkness, not the World of Shaded. It's a nasty place to live and an even easier place to die. If you die in game you new character gets any unspent Exp your old character had.

I hate my character I wanna make a new one. Can I?

Absolutely, but your new character will carry over no Exp from your old one and does NOT get the species advantages and has only 5 freebies per the standard MET rules(can ya tell when something irritates us?) The exception to this is when your character is so ungodly powerful you decide there's nowhere else to go with it and decide to retire it. This is seen by the STs as an honorable way to end a long lvied character that's done lots for the game. If you do this then you recieve all benefits mentioned above.

What is the function of your Narrators?

To help the STs. Mostly what few Narrators we employ on a limited basis, cause we keep none on a permanent one, are asked to help new players make sheets and occasionally run a minor scene. If you wanna be a Narrator then ask us and we'll consider it.

What are your thoughts on other LARPs starting up in the area?

All three Griffinclaw STs would jump for joy and thank God up high for more LARPs in our area. We ourselves are LARPers and A: We love to promote LARPing in general and B: We'd LOVE a game we could play in ourselves without having to run it. Trust us if you're thinking of starting a LARP we will promote the hell out of it for you.

Where'd you get your game area from anyway?

Those wonderfully delightful folks at the UNCC Sci-Fi Fantasy Guild provide us with all our location needs. Many of us are members of the Guild and we absolutely love those guys. The Guild

Who does your website?

Mr. Neil Effird that's who. Neil is a player and friend of ours who does all the work on the website absolutely free without any compensation what so ever other than our undying gratitude. To be honest all three STs agree that Neil does one terrific job at it too.
